Roberto Diago

Havana, 1971

He studied at the San Alejandro Academy in 1990 and works as a Consultant Professor at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana.

One of the most present and influential themes in Juan Roberto’s work is slavery. He also addresses both the visible and invisible strands of racial issues in Cuba.

Diago makes paintings and conceptual installations with found materials sourced from his neighborhood: bits of wood, plastic bottles, and rusty metals. These discarded materials are given new life and meaning by careful construction and juxtaposition,

His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and at the International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC) in Paris. His works are distributed in countries such as the United States, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Monaco and Chile.
