The year 2024 began with a packed calendar of fairs and exhibitions that will continue to add achievements to the rich career of this creator. In January, several pieces made in various artistic media, large-format canvases, watercolors and bronzes were exhibited in the Cernuda Arte space at the fairs Art Palm Beach (January 24-28, 2024), Art Wynwood (February 14-18, 2024) and Palm Beach Modern and Contemporary Art (March 21-25, 2024). Likewise, this gallery brought a selection of works by the Cuban artist to Expo Chicago (April 11-14, 2024).

His drawing Leadership, a large-format piece made on kraft paper, was exhibited at the prestigious “HB” exhibition (November 28, 2023 to January 31, 2024). This exhibition, displayed in the halls of six Havana galleries, was organized by the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets. “HB” brought together a selection of works by more than 100 Cuban artists, both established and young talents. These exhibitions featured the works of creators from diverse careers, both artists based in Cuba and those residing in other countries. Leadership, of enormous symbolic value, was also exhibited last year in the exhibition “Mundos: Goya y Fabelo” that was presented at the Conde Duque Center for Contemporary Culture in Madrid. “HB” also featured the presence of Delicatessen, an extraordinary installation by Fabelo, made of bones and metal.

The second edition of the “Reach to Forest” festival, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (February 20 to March 3, 2024), featured three magnificent portraits by Fabelo, executed with acrylics on embroidered silks. Throughout each of its editions, “Reach to Forest” explores the symbiotic relationships between forests, nature and man through a program that includes films, exhibitions, art installations, talks, among other creative proposals.

Also during the first months of this year, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Havana presented Roberto Fabelo’s candidacy to receive the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts.
In this recount of achievements, it is important to highlight that on March 12 of this year during the Latin American Art auction organized by Christie’s New York, Fabelo successfully closed the auction with the work entitled Culinary Art (lot 61). It is a triptych painted in oil on canvas that had been selected by the famous auction house as one of the recommended lots. This canvas was accompanied by an illustrated essay, written by the art critic and curator, Jorge Fernández, Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba (MNBA). Culinary Art, which reached the figure of 630,000 USD, has meant a sales record for the artist’s work, leaving Fabelo as the second artist with the best result within said auction, only surpassed by the Colombian master Fernando Botero.
