Santiago Rodriguez Olazábal

Santiago Rodríguez Olazábal. He is a Cuban contemporary painter. He has presented solo exhibitions in Cuba, Spain, France, Haiti, the United States and Italy, among others, and numerous joint exhibitions in Cuba, Mexico, the United States, Italy, Germany, Brazil and France, among other countries.

He has participated in international fairs, Havana biennials and several editions of Subastahabana. His works can be found in private collections, museums and public institutions in Cuba, Spain, the United States, Holland, Switzerland and England.

Even before his work started to become known in 1983, Santiago Rodríguez Olazábal, born in Havana in 1955, had worked insistently on the themes of Afro-Cuban religion, Santeria or Regla de Ocha or, as he prefers to call it, the topic of Orisha worship.

Today, twenty years later, he plans to continue with the subject, because, as he confesses, he has not finished what he has to express and new ideas arise every day.

His relationship with Afro-Cuban cults is his raison d’être, and his practice has led him to discover a spiritual world without limits which, in addition to giving meaning to his life, has become the essential source of his artistic creation.
