Los Carpinteros, an artistic collective founded in 1992 and dissolved in 2018. It was made up of:
Marco Antonio Castillo Valdés, Camaguey, Cuba, 1971.
Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, Caibarién, Cuba, 1969.
Alexandre Jesús Arrechea Zambrano, Trinidad, Cuba, 1970. He was a member of the group until 2003.
During its twenty-six year history, Los Carpinteros have experimented with almost all disciplines -sculpture, photography, drawing, installation, video- using an enormous diversity of materials -wood, brick, paper, metal, plastic, concrete, fabric, among others. In all cases, his works challenge the public, provoking a real intellectual check, a blow to their mental, logical and rational architecture.
In their pieces, they deal with themes and common objects of everyday life. In their work they use architecture, sculpture, installation, drawing or design to represent political and social metaphors. His pieces are marked by a strong contradiction between the functional and the non-functional.
